Chester Zoo is welcoming members of the public to attend a Sensory Awareness event on Saturday 27th March 2010 between 11am and 4pm.
There will be four similar days throughout the year, including themed activities for visitors who can enjoy walks and activities with a British Sign Language interpreter and a visual describer.
The first sensory awareness day will have a bird theme and will include a guided tour of the zoo’s bird exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper who will talk about bird calls, worm handling, experience a Flamingo, Condor, or Parrot feed, and own time to explore the rest of the zoo.
The second sensory awareness day will take place on Friday 30th July and has an amphibian and reptile theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo’s amphibian and reptile exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper, handling snakes, stick insects, and snails, experience a crocodile or komodo dragon feed, and own time to explore the rest of the zoo.
The third sensory awareness day will take place on Saturday 18th September and has a Mammals theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo’s mammal exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper of the bat twilight zone, experience a mammal feed, and own time to explore the rest of the zoo.
The forth and final sensory awareness day will take place on Sunday 5th December and has a Christmas theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo, a chance to meet Zoo staff, a ride on the Monorail and free time to enjoy the zoos Christmas offering as well as a chance to explore on your own.
